2000 Hyundai Elantra: What's New

Vehicle Overview
Hyundai adds a slew of standard features to its front-drive Elantra sedan for 2000 but keeps prices at 1999 levels. Hyundai, Korea’s largest auto company, streamlined the lineup last spring to a single GLS price level and added a handful of features then. The compact Elantra comes in sedan and wagon styling and fits between the subcompact Accent and midsize Sonata in size and price. Hyundai’s announced timetable calls for a new Elantra sedan for the 2001 model year. Like all Hyundais, the Elantra’s warranty covers the whole car for five years/60,000 miles, major powertrain components for 10 years/100,000 miles and corrosion for five years/100,000 miles. Hyundai provides free roadside assistance the first five years.

Interior
The standard equipment list grows considerably with the addition of air conditioning, power windows and locks, a cassette stereo, adjustable steering column and other items. Among the few remaining options are cruise control, a CD player and a power sunroof. Elantra seats five and the trunk holds 11 cubic feet of cargo. The rear seatback folds for extra cargo room, but the trunk opening is too small to easily load bulky objects.

Under the Hood
A 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 140 horsepower teams with a standard five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic. Anti-lock brakes also are optional.
