Vehicle Overview Mitsubishi subtracts from the options list and adds to the standard equipment column on its slow-selling Mirage, a front-drive subcompact. Several items previously optional are now standard on both the two-door coupe and four-door sedan. A redesigned Mirage is expected for the 2002 model year.
Interior DE models gain several standard features: a tilt steering column, intermittent wipers, remote mirror controls, a driver’s seat height adjuster, digital clock and a trunk lamp. LS models add power windows, mirrors and locks and cruise control. A 60/40 folding rear seatback is standard on the LS, optional on the DE.
Exterior The Mirage coupe and sedan share few body parts and have different dimensions. The coupe has a 95-inch wheelbase and 168-inch overall length, and the sedan has a 98.4-inch wheelbase and overall length of 173.6 inches. DE models move up from 13-inch tires to 14-inch this year, matching the diameter used on the LS models. LS models can be spiffed up with a new Sport Package that adds a rear spoiler, fog lamps, side sill moldings and alloy wheels.
Under the Hood The DE coupe comes with a 92-horsepower 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The DE sedan ditches the 1.5-liter and gets the 113-horsepower 1.8-liter also found in the LS coupe and sedan. Both engines come with a standard five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic.
