Last night I was eating dinner and caught the tail end of a commercial for the new VW Rabbit. Huh…is that out already? Sure enough VW just confirmed that the 2006 Rabbit, formerly called the Golf, is now at dealerships. And we hadn’t even seen official press shots for the U.S. until today.
The Rabbit is available in two- and four-door models. The two door starts at $14,990 and the four-door starts at $16,990. Both feature the same 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine as the base Jetta, which produces 150 hp and 170 pounds-feet of torque. It should provide more zip in the lighter Rabbit. Mileage is 22/30 mpg (city/highway).
Bringing back the Rabbit should add some nostalgia for buyers, but personally I just think the badge on the back is neat. Click below for more photos.
