General Motors entered the fray of sticker price announcements by accident today. While no press release was issued, the price sheet for the all-new Aura midsize sedan has popped up on the official Saturn website, and at first glance it’s pretty impressive.
While many of the Aura’s rivals in this ultra-competitive segment offer four-cylinder power plants, both Aura models come standard with a V-6 engine. The base XE model, with a 224-hp V-6 and four-speed automatic transmission, starts at $20,595. That’s $700 less than the 221-hp V-6 Ford Fusion. But the Fusion also comes equipped with a more advanced six-speed automatic. However, Saturn’s upper-level Aura, the XR, does come with a six-speed automatic and a slightly larger V-6 engine that delivers 252 hp and starts at $24,595.
While we haven’t tested an Aura yet, its numbers and good looks suggest that the hype around Saturn’s rebirth is not just fiction cooked up by the marketing department. The Aura goes on sale next month.
