Vehicle Overview When it debuted for 2004, the Nissan Titan was the first Japanese pickup truck to truly challenge the domestics in terms of sheer size. For 2008, the model grows even larger with a new long-wheelbase version. Additionally, the Titan’s exterior appearance has been mildly changed, and a new PRO-4X trim level is available. Extended cab (King Cab) and crew cab models are offered, and Desert Stone and Timberline are new colors.
Exterior Besides the extra cargo box length for the long-wheelbase models, the appearance of the Titan carries over relatively unchanged from 2007; most of its few changes are concentrated in the face of the truck, where the headlights are new and the grille has been modified. Standard wheelbase models can have a 5.5-foot cargo box (crew cab) or a 6.5-foot bed (King Cab), while long-wheelbase models can have a 7- or 8-foot box, respectively.
The PRO-4X trim level gets Rancho shocks, more skid plates, a locking rear differential, all-terrain tires and PRO-4X logos inside and out. The Titan’s standard wheels measure 18 inches in diameter, but 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels are available.
Interior The Titan can hold up to six people when the cabin has the standard front bench seat; it seats five with the optional captain’s chairs. The second-row seat cushions flip up to make more cargo room in the cab. The instrument cluster is new, there’s new seat fabric, and Bluetooth-based cell phone connectivity is available. Crew cab models can have a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with an 8-inch flip-down screen.
Under the Hood All Titans are powered by a 5.6-liter V-8 engine that makes 317 horsepower and 385 pounds-feet of torque. The V-8 drives a five-speed automatic transmission, and when properly equipped the Titan can tow up to 9,500 pounds. A no-cost option makes the V-8 capable of running on E85 ethanol in addition to gasoline. Rear- and four-wheel-drive models are available.
Safety All-disc antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and active front head restraints are standard. Power-adjustable pedals, side-impact airbags for the front seats and side curtain airbags are optional.
