2009 Lincoln MKX: What's New

Vehicle Overview
The MKX crossover is a car-based replacement of the truck-based Lincoln Aviator SUV. Since its 2007 debut, the MKX has remained largely unchanged. That trend continues in 2009. The MKX competes with the Cadillac SRX, Lexus RX and Volkswagen Touareg 2. The MKX is a five-seat vehicle that, as a crossover, delivers better interior space, ride and handling, and refinement than a truck-based vehicle, but it falls short in towing capacity.

New for 2009
There is now a standard power liftgate, Sirius Travel Link navigation and Ford’s Sync, a voice-activated hands-free system.

Exterior
The MKX is 186.5 inches long, which is nearly 10 inches shorter than the SRX but almost identical in size to the RX and the Touareg. It has a rounded shape with a distinct cheese-grater grille. There is also a Limited Edition for 2009 that includes various exterior touches to differentiate it from other trim levels.

  • LED taillight strip spans rear
  • Standard 18-inch wheels; 20-inch wheels optional
  • Limited Edition includes 20-inch wheels and four unique exterior colors
  • Standard power liftgate

Interior
The interior is done in the standard Lincoln style with clean, simple shapes and a silvery center control panel, which is more agreeable than some of the fake metal that appears in virtually all new cars. Cargo capacity is 32 cubic feet behind the second row and 69 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. That’s more cargo space than the Touareg, but less space than the RX offers.

  • Heated and cooled front seats standard; heated rear seats available
  • 60/40-split folding backseat with adjustable backrests
  • Available Vista Roof glass-panel roof
  • In-dash LCD screen incorporates optional navigation system and THX II premium stereo with two subwoofers
  • Auxiliary audio input jack
  • Rear-seat DVD entertainment system optional
  • Voice-activated Sync standard
  • Sirius Satellite Radio standard

Under the Hood
The MKX shares its engine with the Ford Edge. When properly equipped, the MKX can tow up to 3,500 pounds.

  • 265-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 with 250 pounds-feet of torque
  • Six-speed automatic transmission
  • Front- or all-wheel-drive versions

Safety
Safety features include:

  • Standard four-wheel-disc antilock brakes
  • Standard side-impact and side curtain airbags
  • Standard electronic stability system with Roll Stability Control
  • Adaptive headlights optional
