2010 Chevrolet Impala: What's New

Vehicle Overview
The Impala is Chevrolet’s flagship full-size sedan. Three trim levels are available: LS, LT and LTZ. Impalas compete with the Ford Taurus, Chrysler 300 and Toyota Avalon.

New for 2010
The LT model gets new standard and optional features for 2010, and the high-performance SS trim was dropped from the lineup.

Exterior
Built on a 110.5-inch wheelbase, the Impala is 200.4 inches long overall, 72.9 inches wide and 58.7 inches tall. The Impala is longer than the 300 and Avalon and nearly the same width as the Avalon, but it’s narrower than the Taurus and 300. As for height, it’s taller than the 300 and Avalon but 2 inches lower than the Taurus.

  • LS and LT models have 16-inch wheels
  • LTZ models have 18-inch wheels

Interior
Inside the Impala, flip-and-fold rear-seat cushions reveal a covered storage area and include grocery bag hooks. The flip-fold seat is available on LS and LT models and standard on LTZ models. The rear seatback folds down to create a pass-through into the trunk. GM’s OnStar communication system is standard, and an available Directions and Connections service gives audio turn-by-turn directions from an OnStar operator.

  • Impalas can be equipped with one of three audio systems. LS and LT models have a standard six-speaker MP3/CD stereo, while the LTZ model has a standard Bose system with eight speakers that’s optional on the LT.
  • Convenience Package available on LT includes universal home remote, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and power, heated outside mirrors
  • Seating for five or six, depending on choice of front seat
  • Standard dual-zone manual climate control on all models
  • Standard illuminated vanity mirrors for driver and front passenger (LT and LTZ)
  • Standard XM Satellite Radio (subscription sold separately)
  • Available remote start

Under the Hood
Engines include a 3.5-liter V-6 and a 3.9-liter V-6. Both can be had in flex-fuel versions that can run on ethanol-based E85.

  • 207-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 with 215 pounds-feet of torque
  • 230-hp, 3.9-liter V-6 with 238 pounds-feet of torque
  • LTZ has sportier suspension
  • Four-speed automatic transmission on all models

Safety
Side curtain airbags and seat belt pretensioners for the front seats are standard. Latch child-seat anchors are found in all second-row seating positions. OnStar includes GM’s Advanced Crash Response System, which makes crash data available to 911 centers.
