The Taurus has a good track record, earning the nod in 2008 and 2009. The Ford Five Hundred also picked it up in 2007 before it was handed the Taurus name.
To be named a Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must earn the highest rating, Good, in front, side and rear crash tests, and must also be equipped with electronic stability control.
Interestingly, IIHS hasn’t crash-tested a Taurus since 2007, when it was called the Five Hundred. The designation is based on Ford’s internal crash-test data and verified by IIHS researchers.
