The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has announced that the 2010 Hyundai Genesis and Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedans have earned Top Safety Pick awards. To get the nod, a car must earn the agency’s top score of Good in front, side and rear crash tests, and it must pass a roof-crush strength test and be equipped with electronic stability control.

The roof test, which was added for 2010, significantly reduced the number of overall Top Safety Picks, but IIHS is testing more and more vehicles for roof strength. The total number of Top Safety Picks is now 33, up from the original 27 when the new ratings were announced.
