Vehicle Overview

The Hyundai Tucson is a compact SUV that competes with the Nissan Rogue, Ford Escape and Subaru Forester. It was redesigned for 2010. For 2011, a new trim level and four-cylinder engine choice have been added. It comes standard with a manual transmission, which is unusual in this class.

New for 2011
The Tucson adds a base GL trim level to go along with the GLS and Limited trims. Available only with front-wheel drive, the GL comes with a 165-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Other changes include upgraded content on the GLS and a premium suspension on the Limited.

Exterior
In terms of size and proportions, the Tucson is similar to the Rogue, and it’s roughly the same size as the Escape and Forester, too. It features a newer hexagonal grille that some Hyundai models now sport, wraparound taillights and swept-back headlights. Exterior features include:

  • Standard 17-inch wheels
  • Standard rear spoiler
  • Optional 18-inch wheels
  • Optional panoramic moonroof
  • Chrome grille accents and door handles on Limited models

 

Interior
Tucsons come standard with power windows, folding side mirrors and remote keyless entry. There are also 12-volt power outlets in the front of the cabin and the cargo area, an armrest storage bin, map pockets and a flip-down rear armrest with cupholders. Interior features include:

  • Standard blue lighting for gauges
  • Standard cloth seats
  • Optional leather seating surfaces
  • Optional Bluetooth connectivity
  • Optional steering-wheel audio controls

Under the Hood
Base Tucsons are powered by a 165-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while GLS and Limited Tucsons have a 176-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that teams with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Mechanical features include:

  • Front- or all-wheel drive
  • Standard hill descent control
  • Standard four-wheel-disc brakes

Safety
Standard safety features include:

  • Antilock brakes
  • Electronic stability system with traction control
  • Six airbags including side curtain airbags with rollover sensors
  • Active front head restraints
