Mazda’s redesigned 2012 Mazda5 will go on sale in January with a starting price of $19,900 not including an undisclosed destination fee, according to the automaker. That’s a hefty $1,390 more than the 2010 base price.
The new Mazda5 will be offered in the three same trim levels: Sport, Touring and Grand Touring.
All models come with a new 157-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated either to a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. There was no word on gas mileage, but the old 2.3-liter achieved 21/27 mpg city/highway with the automatic transmission.
The Sport trim gets 16-inch alloy wheels; air conditioning; power windows, locks and mirrors; keyless entry; cruise control; and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls. Last year’s Sport trim had features like automatic climate control and 17-inch alloy wheels standard.
The Touring trim comes standard with a five-speed automatic transmission, 17-inch alloy wheels, sport side sills, rear spoiler, fog lamps, Bluetooth connectivity and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Touring drops the moonroof and six-disc CD changer from its standard features for 2011. To get those same options, you’ll need to opt for the $1,140 Moonroof and Audio Package.
The Grand Touring adds a moonroof, xenon high-intensity-discharge headlamps, automatic daytime running lights, heated exterior mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, security alarm, heated front seats, leather trimmed seats and a six-disc CD changer.
