2012 Toyota Corolla: What's New

Vehicle Overview

The five-seat Corolla sedan is Toyota’s entrant in the compact-car segment. Competitors include the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, Mazda3 and Honda Civic.

New for 2012
Available features include steering-wheel audio controls for the LE trim level as well as a CD stereo with satellite radio, an MP3 jack, iPod connectivity and Bluetooth streaming audio. Base Corollas add power locks with remote keyless entry, and power windows.

Exterior
With a horizontally split grille and broad front air dam, the Corolla looks a bit like the prior-generation Mazda6. In back, a chrome strip joins the taillights. The S trim adds ground effects, fog lights, a rear spoiler and 16-inch alloy wheels. Exterior features include:

  • Fifteen- or 16-inch wheels
  • Power mirrors
  • Daytime running lights
  • Optional moonroof

Interior
The Corolla has room for five people with its front bucket seats and a three-place rear bench. A 60/40-split folding backseat is standard. Interior features include:

  • Standard air conditioning
  • Standard tilt/telescoping steering wheel
  • Standard CD stereo with MP3 jack
  • Fabric upholstery
  • S trim has unique steering wheel, gauges and sport seats

Under the Hood
The Corolla is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that pairs with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Front disc and rear drum brakes are standard across the board. Mechanical features include:

  • 132-horsepower, 1.8-liter four-cylinder with 128 pounds-feet of torque
  • Engine uses regular gas

Safety
All Corollas come with an electronic stability system and traction control. Additional standard safety features include:

  • Front side-impact airbags
  • Side curtain airbags
  • Active front head restraints
  • Antilock brakes
