2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport: What's New

Vehicle Overview

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is Mitsubishi’s smallest SUV with room for five occupants. It’s a size down from the larger seven-passenger Outlander. The Outlander Sport revisits some of the changes made for the previous model year — specifically to the transmission — as well as other mechanical tweaks and minor styling changes to the outside. The Outlander Sport competes with the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape and Hyundai Tucson.

Exterior
It takes a second glance to spot the exterior changes for 2013. The fog lights have a new design, and the lower side sills, lower rear and front bumper are now black instead of matching the exterior’s paint color as in previous years. Replacing last year’s 16-inch wheels are 18-inchers standard on all models. Exterior features include:

  • 18-inch wheels
  • Heated side mirrors
  • Available rain-sensing wipers
  • Available high-intensity-discharge headlights
  • Available chrome-surround for fog lights
  • New colors (White Pearl and Quick Silver)

Interior
The Outlander Sport has room for five occupants. New fabrics on the inside and chrome molding on the front doors make up the notable changes for 2013. Interior features include:

  • 60/40-split folding rear seats
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Fuse voice-activated phone and iPod control
  • Cruise control
  • Tilt/telescoping steering wheel
  • Steering-wheel audio controls
  • Available heated front seats

Under the Hood
Powering the Outlander Sport is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a standard five-speed manual transmission and available continuously variable automatic transmission. For 2013, the CVT receives calibration updates to improve its acceleration and smoothness. Other changes include a revised rear suspension that Mitsubishi says improves handling and comfort. Mechanical features include:

  • 148-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder
  • Five-speed-manual transmission
  • Available CVT with paddle shifters
  • Front-wheel drive
  • Available all-wheel drive
  • Hill start assist

Safety
Safety features include:

  • Electronic stability system
  • Side-impact airbags for front occupants
  • Side curtain airbags for front and rear occupants with rollover sensor
  • Driver knee airbag
