344,187 model-year 2007-2008 Honda Odyssey minivans manufactured between Aug. 8, 2006, and Sept. 8, 2008.
The Problem: Due to a combination of system components and software, the Vehicle Safety Assist system may apply the brakes unexpectedly without illuminating the brake lights. A sudden hard brake with no indication to following drivers increases the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Parts to remedy the problem will not be available until spring. Honda will begin notifying owners of the problem in December and provide instructions on how to prevent unintended braking. The automaker will send a second notification when parts become available.
What Owners Should Do: Owners can call Honda at 800-999-1009 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or go to www.safercar.gov, for more info.
