Vehicles Affected: Approximately 130 model-year 2013 versions of the SL63, SL550 and SL65; the affected vehicles were manufactured from Jan. 16 through April 30, 2013.
The Problem: These cars have an occupant classification system that might not detect a light person sitting in the front passenger seat. This could deactivate the front passenger’s airbag, increasing the risk of an injury during a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the passenger side seat cushion and the occupant classification system for free.
What Owners Should Do: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners later this month. Owners can call Mercedes at 201-573-0600 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 888-327-4236 for more information.
