Vehicles Affected: Approximately 170,000 model-year 2014-16 Mitsubishi Outlander and model-year 2013-16 Outlander Sport SUVs

The Problem: Water may enter the rear brake calipers, causing the parking brake actuator shafts to corrode and possibly bind. This may prevent the parking brake from fully engaging or disengaging, allowing the vehicle to move unexpectedly if parked on a slope, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect the rear brake calipers and replace the parking brake boot and lever or the brake caliper body as needed. Dealers will also replace the piston assembly of the rear brake caliper. Both repairs will be done for free.

What Owners Should Do: Mitsubishi will begin notifying owners March 27. Owners can call the automaker at 888-648-7820, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
