Unless you've been living under a rock for almost 25 years, you know how popular the "Jurassic Park" movie franchise has become. The newest installment — "Jurassic World" — made its premiere in Hollywood Tuesday, and one of the most impressive red-carpet celebrities and key players from the film was the pickup truck variant of the new 2015 G63 AMG 6×6.
Mercedes-Benz vehicles are prominently highlighted in the movie, with several stock and modified trucks used by the main characters to (literally) drive the action, including an all-new 2016 GLE AMG 450 Coupe, a Unimog dinosaur ambulance, a customized Sprinter van and the 6×6 G-Wagen troop carrier. Although we haven't driven the 6×6 yet, we did get the chance to see the truck on Hollywood Boulevard before the first U.S. showing of the movie.
The G63 is impressive and quite real; the first 6×6 G-Wagens were built for the Australian army several years ago. The truck has acquired cult status since Mercedes-Benz moved it to the automaker's high-performance AMG stable. The truck offers two driven rear axles, four locking differentials, almost 600 horsepower from a hand-built twin-turbo V-8 and 37-inch-tall military-style tires. If you're looking to purchase one of these, you'll need more than $600,000.
The best video we could find on the G63 AMG 6×6 is from a BBC "Top Gear" test from a few years ago.
