2016-2018 Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid: Recall Alert

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 2,800 model-year 2016-18 Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid sedans

The Problem: The voltage protection device, designed to protect the high-voltage battery module, may activate inadvertently. If the VPD activates while the car is in Electric Vehicle mode, there may be a loss of power, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will remove the VPD switch and install a new battery management system that contains an overvoltage protection device for free.

What Owners Should Do: Hyundai will begin notifying owners May 4. Owners can call the automaker at 855-371-9460, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
