2016 Kia Sorento Grows Up For Families

Kia seems to be growing up in front of our eyes even faster than my tween daughters. I was happily surprised by my recent test-drive of the new 2015 Kia Sedona minivan, and that growth in maturity is clearly going to be a theme for Kia based upon the all-new 2016 Sorento shown at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Sure, its dimensions have stretched a bit to create a slightly roomier feel inside, but the real story is its upscale fit and finish and attention to usable features in this three-row crossover.

That innovative smart liftgate that I raved about in the Sedona makes an appearance in the Sorento as well. No need to try to balance precariously on one foot while juggling kids and groceries to swipe the other foot under the bumper to open the liftgate. With the Sorento and Sedona, the vehicle detects the key fob in your pocket or purse when you stand behind the rear bumper and the liftgate opens automatically. No muss, no fuss.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I oohed and aahed when I slipped into the driver’s seat. Part of that may have been getting off my feet for a few minutes at the auto show, but only just a a little bit. The Sorento’s ivory-colored Nappa leather is as soft as butter and looks almost as delicious (I thought about licking it but figured I’d refrain). Clearly I’m in need of some slippers and a snack.

Soft-touch surfaces, detailed stitching and a massive panoramic sunroof take this crossover to the top of my can’t-wait-to-test-drive-it list.
