2017-2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia, 2018 Stelvio: Recall Alert
Vehicles Affected: Approximately 34,300 model-year 2017-18 Alfa Romeo Giulia sedans and model-year 2018 Stelvio SUVs, Quadrifoglio models excepted
The Problem: A specific engine operating condition that occurs naturally, but only rarely, and is imperceptible to the driver may go unmitigated by existing engine control software, which could cause the catalytic converter to overheat, possibly leading to an engine stall or, in unique circumstances, fire.
Alfa Romeo parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said it is unaware of any related accidents or injuries.
The Fix: Dealers will update the engine control software and, as necessary, replace the catalytic converters for free.
What Owners Should Do: FCA will begin notifying owners the first week of October. Owners can call Alfa Romeo at 866-932-3881, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
