Vehicles Affected: Approximately 8,900 model-year 2017-19 Fiat 124 Spider sports cars equipped with automatic transmissions
The Problem: Due to incorrect programming of the transmission control module, certain conditions may cause the vehicle to unexpectedly downshift and abruptly decelerate, increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will update the transmission control module software for free.
What Owners Should Do: Fiat automaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will begin notifying owners March 27. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
