Vehicles Affected: Approximately 490,600 model-year 2017-19 Ford F-Series Super Duty SuperCrew pickup trucks with carpet flooring built from Oct. 8, 2015, to Oct. 29, 2019
The Problem: A front seat belt pretensioner could generate excessive sparks, which could ignite the carpet or carpet insulation in the B-pillar, increasing the risk of fire and injury.
Ford said it is aware of one related report of fire, but no related accidents or injuries.
The Fix: Dealers will apply foil tape to the carpet and carpet insulation and modify the sound deadener on the backside of the B-Pillar trim panel for free.
What Owners Should Do: Ford did not immediately announce an owner-notification schedule. Owners can call the automaker at 800-392-3673, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
