CARS.COM — Acura’s NSX supercar made its debut at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and then left us all hangin’ for a full year before its production version showed up virtually unchanged. Just a few months after the NSX hits showrooms this spring, its racing version already will be hitting the track. Acura unveiled the 2017 Acura NSX GT3 track variant of the supercar at the 2016 New York International Auto Show — and if the original looked race-ready in the first place, this one looks primed to blast off into space.
Acura said in a statement that the GT3 will use the production version’s ultra-rigid and lightweight multimaterial body with a frame that makes liberal use of aluminum. The racecar, Acura stated, features “custom bodywork and aero components including a large deck wing spoiler, underbody diffuser and enlarged hood vents for efficient engine cooling,” and is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 designed to the same specs as the “regular” version.
