CARS.COM — For 2017, Nissan has added a sported-up version of its Sentra compact sedan to the lineup. When the Sentra SR Turbo goes on sale in October, it’ll start at $22,825, including destination. It competes against the Ford Focus ST ($25,650) and the Hyundai Elantra Sport (prices not yet announced).
The SR Turbo is equipped with a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine good for 188 horsepower and 177 pounds-feet of torque — 64 hp and 52 pounds-feet of torque more than the Sentra SR’s naturally aspirated 1.8-liter. The SR Turbo is available with either a six-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic transmission with a manual mode for the same price. Aside from the upgraded powertrain, Nissan says the SR Turbo’s suspension, steering and brakes have all be retuned for maximum sportiness.
For 2017, Nissan says all versions of the Sentra get improved interior quietness and nearly double the storage capacity in the front center console. Base model-year 2017 Sentras start at $17,825, around $200 more than the 2016 model. The 2017 Sentra is on sale now.
