CARS.COM — Toyota unveiled an updated 2017 Corolla at the 2016 New York International Auto Show and introduced a limited-production 50th Anniversary Special Edition commemorating the Corolla’s launch in calendar year 1966. Fifty years of production at Toyota seems to be honored with as much recognition as receiving a ballpoint pen for a 10-year work anniversary considering the mild appearance and feature grouping of the 50th anniversary package.
An exclusive Black Cherry exterior color is one of three paints offered, which also include Classic Silver and Blizzard Pearl. Other exterior features include 17-inch wheels with dark gray inserts, LED headlights and 50th Anniversary badging. On the inside, a 7-inch touch-screen, keyless access with push-button start and Entune Audio Plus with app-based navigation are standard while the interior has Black Cherry contrast stitching on the seats, steering wheel, shift boot and center armrest. Black Cherry also accents the dashboard and door trim.
Toyota plans to build 8,000 of the 50th Anniversary Special Editions in the U.S. with sales starting in fall 2016.
