2018 BMW M5 Video Review

CARS.COM — Move over, M550i. BMW’s new 2018 M5 is the new top dog in the 5 Series lineup. We got a closer look at the performance sedan at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Outside, the M5 distinguishes itself with the traditional badges, along with some extras like carbon-fiber trim, quad exhaust tips and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Under the hood, the M5’s performance chops go above and beyond the M550. Both cars use a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8, but in the M5, it’s good for up to 600 horsepower and 553 pounds-feet of torque, surpassing the M550’s 456 hp and 480 pounds-feet. The new model is also all-wheel drive — an M5 first. BMW says the new M-spec system features a driver-selectable mode that only sends power to the rear should you want traditional rear-drive handling.

The 2018 BMW M5 goes on sale in the spring of 2018. Watch the video for more.
