CARS.COM — Subaru is no stranger to special-edition models, with limited versions of its BRZ and WRX debuting each year. The automaker has announced pricing for a pair of new special-edition models: The 2018 WRX STI Type RA starts at $49,855, and the 2018 BRZ tS at $34,355; all prices include a destination charge.

Subaru says it’s upped the WRX’s performance factor through weight reduction as well as suspension and engine tweaks. Standards on the WRX STI Type RA include a Bilstein STI sport-tuned suspension, carbon-fiber roof panel and carbon-fiber pedestal wing, as well as lightweight, 19-inch forged alloy wheels; the spare tire has also been removed.

The model also receives powertrain upgrades. Power comes from the regular version’s turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, but horsepower increases to 310 thanks to a new cold-air intake and high-flow performance exhaust. The six-speed manual transmission also uses a revised 3rd gear ratio and a short-throw shifter.

The WRX STI Type RA will be available in WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica and Crystal White Pearl paint colors. Model-exclusive Cherry Blossom Red accents around the grille and bumper cover, plus 19-inch forged alloy wheels in gold finish, distinguish it in the lineup, as do exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals, a roof-mounted shark-fin antenna and STI fender badges in a black finish.

The 2018 BRZ tS gets upgrades like STI-tuned suspension components, lightweight 18-inch STI wheels and a performance braking system.

Outside, the BRZ gets a more aggressive look thanks to a model-exclusive STI carbon-fiber spoiler, which is manually adjustable to fine-tune downforce. Other additions include STI front, rear and side underspoilers to help control airflow, as well as similar Cherry Blossom Red accents and black finish trim. The tS will also be available in WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica and Crystal White Pearl paint colors.

Sales of both models are limited to 500 each, and they’ll hit dealerships in the spring of 2018.
