CARS.COM — Pricing for the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas will start at $31,425, including a $925 destination charge, and range to $49,415 to start for the top model of the three-row SUV. The all-new Atlas will have five trims and two available engines: a four-cylinder with front-wheel drive only and a 276-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 with front- or all-wheel drive.

The entry price will buy a base S model with a 235-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and front-wheel drive – when you can get one. The Atlas is due to arrive at dealers in May, but VW’s pricing announcement says this lowest-price model with the four-cylinder won’t be available until later.

The base model that will be available at the start is a limited-edition S Launch trim available only with the V-6. It has the standard S features plus some added amenities such as a moonroof and an 8-inch touchscreen display. The S Launch will be priced at $34,425 with front-wheel drive or $36,225 with all-wheel drive.

How the trims break down:

The S includes 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, roof rails, LED headlights and daytime running lights, and a multimedia system with a 6.5-inch display as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. In addition to the base four-cylinder model, it will have V-6 versions starting at $32,825 with front-wheel drive and $34,625 with all-wheel drive.

The SE starts at $34,515 with the four-cylinder, $35,915 for the V-6 FWD and $37,715 for the V-6 AWD. It adds amenities and technology including automatic headlights, leatherette upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, power driver’s seat, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, push-button start and a multimedia system with 8-inch touchscreen plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The SE With Technology adds a suite of electronic safety aids, including a forward collision system with automatic braking and pedestrian monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert and lane keep assist. A power liftgate, remote start and three-zone climate also are included. Prices start at $36,615 (four), $38,015 (V-6 FWD) and $39,815 (V-6 AWD).

An SEL model builds on the SE Technology model and passes the $40,000 mark at $40,085 to start for the four. It adds a panoramic moonroof, hands-free liftgate, power passenger seat, seat and mirror memory and parking sensors (front and rear). It also gets a household electrical outlet in the second row and a factory tow hitch on V-6 models, which are priced to start at $41,815 (FWD) and $43,615 (AWD).

It’s a big step from there to the top of the line: The SEL Premium luxury model, which includes the V-6 and all-wheel drive standard, starts at $49,415. It adds leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a 12.3-inch configurable digital instrument display, 20-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, a navigation system, a 360-degree camera, Fender premium audio, a heated steering wheel, automatic high beams and automatic parking assist.

Among major option packages are second-row captain’s chairs for the SE and higher trims for $625 (not available at the start), an R-Line sporty interior and exterior appearance package for SE and SEL trims at $1,960 (also later availability), and 20-inch black wheels for the SEL ($995) and SEL Premium ($235) models.
