2019 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Hella Cheap, New Redeye a Discount Demon

If muscle on muscles is your thing, Dodge has some deals for you — a 2019 Challenger SRT Hellcat with 10 more horsepower for more than $5,000 less than the 2018 model year, according to a partial price list that’s been released on the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. Meanwhile, the new 797-hp Hellcat Redeye will start at more than $13,000 less than the now-departed street-legal Demon that inspired it.

The 717-hp 2019 Challenger SRT Hellcat muscle car will start at $61,745 with a six-speed manual transmission — including a $1,700 federal gas-guzzler tax and $1,395 destination charge (up $50 from 2018). That’s $5,595 less than the sticker on a 2018 model and might leave more in your budget for the many possible add-ons. Or you might use it to buy more room for your big sticky tires; the Hellcat Widebody model, which adds 3.5 inches in width, added $6,000 to the price for 2018, though Dodge has not yet said what the premium will be for 2019.

Meanwhile, the new Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, with 797 hp and a range of gear from the drag-strip-optimized Demon, will start at $72,745 with the guzzler tax and higher destination. This Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye is down 43 hp but also $13,595 in price from the now-discontinued Demon. It also will be offered in a widebody version. The Redeye will sprint from zero-to-60 mph in 3.4 seconds, Dodge says — down from 2.3 seconds for the Demon, though it also promises to be more livable on the street.

A less exotic Dodge Challenger can be had, however, for as little as $28,690 with destination for the base SXT trim level with a standard 305-hp V-6 and eight-speed automatic transmission. That’s up $50 thanks to the higher destination charge. Next up is a new rear-wheel-drive version of the V-6/automatic GT (it was all-wheel-drive-only in 2018) that starts at $31,390. It adds a hood scoop, cloth houndstooth-pattern seats, paddle shifters, and sportier steering and suspension. There also is a new AWD version of the V-6 SXT that starts at $31,690 and the 2019 AWD version of the V-6 GT is $34,390, down $950 from the 2018 version.

If you’re gonna feel bad because you coulda had a V-8, eight-cylinder Challengers begin with the R/T trim level. It has a 375-hp, 5.7-liter Hemi mated to a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic and added features, and starts at $35,495 with the manual, which is $155 more than the 2018 version. But it’s still slightly less than the lowest-price V-8s in muscle rivals, which are $36,350 with destination for the Mustang and $37,995 for the Camaro.

Moving up to the R/T Scat Pack adds a 485-hp, 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic, Brembo brakes and other features. It starts at $41,390 with the manual, up $50, including destination and a $1,000 gas-guzzler tax that applies to the manual version only. The 2019 Challenger R/T Scat Pack also will be newly available with the Widebody package, but Dodge did not announce the price.

The 2019 Challenger models will go on sale in the fall.
