CARS.COM — GMC today revealed the completely redesigned Sierra 1500 half-ton pickup truck. Following closely behind the debut of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the GMC Sierra 1500 shares much of the same underlying structure as its sibling while sporting a unique exterior look and features that will firmly place it as GM’s luxurious pickup offering.

The 2019 Sierra 1500’s face is noticeably different from the 2019 Silverado 1500’s, wearing a 10-sided grille with two “nostrils” flanking the lower portion. The nostrils function similar to the “gills” on the Silverado, but the new Sierras get a more upscale chrome trim and are more prominent than the Chevrolet. GMC gave the Sierra a more channeled and sloped roof and hood for additional aerodynamic benefits.

At the back, the Sierra 1500-exclusive MultiPro tailgate features multiple positions and a tailgate-within-a-tailgate feature that allows for easier access to in-bed items and also doubles as a standing workstation. The tailgate also makes for easy ingress and egress, especially when combined with an available assist handle. The bed itself is unique to the full-size pickup-truck class: The available CarbonPro bed uses carbon fiber for weight savings and added strength and durability, which is an industry first; this is the first time, GMC says, that carbon fiber has been used in any pickup-truck bed.

The interior of the 2019 Sierra 1500 also separates it from its Silverado sibling, particularly in the Denali trim. Pebbled premium leather, aluminum and open-pore wood feature throughout the Denali’s cabin. The Sierra 1500 also features the first head-up display in a pickup for this class, using a multicolor 3-by-7-inch display to provide important information in the driver’s line of sight. A rear camera mirror is also available, another class-first, GMC says.
