A major recall is out for approximately 184,700 model-year 2021-22 Ford F-150 pickup trucks in light of a new issue over a potentially damaged driveshaft.

The affected trucks have underbody heat and noise insulators that may loosen and contact the aluminum driveshaft, which could damage the driveshaft and cause it to fracture. A fractured driveshaft can cause a loss of drive power or loss of vehicle control if the driveshaft contacts the ground. Additionally, unintended movement could occur while parked if the parking brake is not engaged. Either situation could increase the risk of a crash or injury.

To resolve the problem, dealers will inspect and repair the driveshaft, as necessary. They will also properly attach the underbody insulators. Both repairs will be done for free, and owners will be notified starting Jan. 31, 2022. Those with further questions can call the automaker at 866-436-7332, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
