The 2023 Genesis Electrified G80, the brand’s newest all-electric offering, has earned a Top Safety Pick Plus award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety due to its strong safety structure and LED projector headlamps.

In order for a vehicle to earn a Top Safety Pick, only one set of headlights must earn a good or acceptable rating; for a Top Safety Pick Plus award, however, the vehicle must earn a good or acceptable rating for its headlights across all trim levels. Vehicles must also receive good ratings in six crash-test categories: driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, original side, roof strength and head restraint evaluations. Additionally, the vehicle must secure an advanced or superior rating for its front crash prevention system in vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian tests.

The Electrified G80 not only managed to excel in all six of the crash-test categories, its front crash prevention system also earned superior ratings in both vehicle-to-vehicle and daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations. The electric sedan’s LED projector headlamps managed to get an acceptable rating from the IIHS in testing, as well.

The Electrified G80’s Top Safety Pick Plus award is a welcome accolade for Genesis as it seeks to expand its presence in the EV market, and it adds to the brand’s list of other Top Safety Pick Plus awards, which includes the gas-powered G80 sedan and GV70 and GV60 SUVs. Electrified versions of the G80 and GV70 are a more conventional take on advanced EV motoring, with styling that mirrors their gas-powered cousins, and Genesis hopes this similarity will help ease the transition process for hesitant EV buyers.
