For all those optimists who think the sky is the limit for the Fiat brand's U.S. revival, here's your car: the 2018 Fiat 500X Blue Sky Edition. Although it likely doesn't come with flawless reliability (a sore spot since the brand's relaunch), it does feature pretty blue paint and a sunroof.
Outside, the Blue Sky Edition adds satin chrome mirror caps, door handles, bodyside moldings, foglamp bezels, front and rear badges, taillamp bezels and a liftgate handle. Exterior color choices include Bianco Gelato (White Clear Coat), Nero Cinema (Black Clear Coat), Grigio Graphite (Graphite Gray) and the namesake Blue Sky Metallic.
Inside, extras include model-specific blue-patterned cloth seats, a blue instrument panel and a dual-pane powered sunroof.
The model is based on the entry-level Pop trim and adds $1,495 to the cost of a front-wheel-drive Pop with the nine-speed automatic transmission. It adds $1,195 to all-wheel-drive Pop models.
The Blue Sky goes on sale this spring. Sales of the 500X have slid 20 percent so far this year, and sales of the brand in general have sunk to the tune of 44 percent compared with last year. Can the Blue Sky edition help bolster the numbers? Maybe; they can only go up from there.
