Amphibious Car Company Coming to Michigan

We first brought you word of German company Gibbs’ plans to build an aquatic car in the U.S. more than a year ago. We still don’t know exactly where the Aquada amphibious car will be built, but we now know that the company’s North American headquarters will be in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Obviously, an amphibious car that will cost upward of $85,000 isn’t going to reach mass-market status, but there could certainly be a niche market for the Aquada, which can hit 110 mph on the road and 40 mph in the water.

Because no manufacturing site has been selected yet, we’re guessing shoppers won’t be able to fulfill their James Bond fantasies for at least another year or two.
