Audi A6: Which Should You Buy, 2020 or 2021?

Most significant changes: More standard or available features included across trim levels, as well as in the A6 Allroad wagon and S6 performance variant; Black Optic and Black Optic Sport appearance packages available on all trim levels and A6 Allroad

Which should you buy, 2020 or 2021? 2021. With additional features included as standard or on higher trim levels for no price increase (or a modest one, in the case of the S6), a 2021 model makes the most sense. If 2020 models start receiving discounts once 2021s arrive, the choice becomes a question of what you’re willing to spend.

The Audi A6 model range (not including the RS 6 Avant wagon) saw the return of two significant models — the S6 and A6 Allroad wagon — for the 2020 model year. For 2021, Audi is sprucing up the A6 family in a few ways.

Audi has updated the A6 family by including more features in various trim levels and options packages, as well as making a Black Optic appearance package available on all trim levels. It can be more than an appearance package, too, as a Black Optic Sport Package adds a sport suspension for the sedan. According to the brand, the 2021 A6 family should arrive at dealerships sometime in the second half of 2020.

2021 A6 Sedan

For 2021, A6 sedan models in the entry-level Premium trim now come standard with 19-inch wheels, Audi’s advanced key and an integrated toll module; it starts at $55,895 (all prices include a destination fee of $995, unchanged from 2020). The Premium trim’s optional Convenience Package now includes a top-down camera view and 10.1-inch infotainment display with integrated navigation. The A6 Premium Plus trim level, starting at $59,795, includes Audi’s adaptive cruise control with lane keep assist as standard equipment. The top Prestige trim, starting at $65,895, includes power rear windows and manual side sunshades as standard. The Black Optic Package includes black exterior accents and 20-inch two-color wheels, while the more advanced Black Optic Sport Package adds a sport suspension. Either package can be added to all trim levels.

2021 A6 Allroad

On the A6 Allroad wagon, starting at $66,895, adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist are now included in the optional Executive Package available on the Premium Plus trim level. The Black Optic Package is newly available on the A6 Allroad and adds black exterior accents and trim pieces (though not the sport suspension).

2021 S6 Sedan

The S6, starting at $75,395, adds new standard equipment including 21-inch wheels with summer performance tires, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit Plus and carbon-twill interior inlays. Adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist are part of the S6 Executive Package on the Premium Plus trim level.
