The 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show is just over a week away and the latest automaker to confirm debuts is Audi, with plans to show off a trio of performance-oriented cars: the new 2017 R8 as well as RS 7 performance and S8 plus models.
Audi says the second generation of its performance coupe will be its fastest and most powerful car. The 2017 R8 shares components with the R8 racecar, including its V-10 engine. Two powertrain variants will be available: the 5.2-liter V-10 makes 540 horsepower for 2017, an increase of 15 hp. In the R8 V10 Plus model, horsepower jumps to 610 hp, an increase of 60 hp compared to the outgoing model. The coupe will go on sale in spring 2016; no word yet on pricing.
Joining the R8 are two new trim levels: the RS 7 Performance and S8 Plus sedans. The RS 7 Performance model wears specific exterior design cues and builds off the current RS 7’s powertrain with 605 hp, compared to the RS 7’s 560 hp. The S8 Plus adds to the current S8 lineup with a more powerful version of the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8; Audi said the engine “breaks the 600-hp barrier,” but didn’t release an exact figure.
The cars make their debut on Nov. 18. Check back for more details.
