BMW is offering a real-time traffic system in many of its 2007 models, including the new X5, M5 and M6, as well as the 3, 5 and 6 Series. The system will not require an additional monthly fee and will be included in the option price of the navigation system. There will be no additional charges for four years, though there’s no word on what happens after that.
BMW says the feature will re-route your trip if it detects heavy traffic on the current route and will be available in roughly 40 major metropolitan areas. Acura offers a similar traffic system, and we’re sure that in a few years this will become as common as standard navigation systems are now.
