CARS.COM — The hatchback version of Chevrolet’s Cruze is all new in the U.S. for 2017 and the automaker just announced its starting price. When the more versatile variant of the Cruze goes on sale in the fall, it’ll start at $22,190 with destination charge.

The entry-level Cruze hatchback is more expensive than the 2016 entry-level sedan — by $4,695, to be exact — but the hatchback doesn’t bother with entry-level L and LS versions like the sedan. Instead, the hatchback’s base model is the better-equipped LT trim. The Premier trim, which will start at $24,820, is the top-level option and both are available with the RS appearance package.

For $22,190, the hatchback’s base price gets you a six-speed manual transmission, a 153-horsepower, turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and more. The Cruze hatchback’s starting price is quite a bit higher than hatchback competitors like the 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT ($19,635), 2016 Mazda Mazda3 i Sport ($19,380) and Ford Focus SE ($19,890), though detailed information about equipment isn’t available at the time of writing. A Chevrolet spokesperson says equipment and packaging information will soon be available on the Chevrolet consumer site.
