Corolla Supplants Focus as Top Vehicle in Clunkers Sales

The Honda Civic, Toyota Prius and Toyota Camry round out the top five. Spots six through 10 were taken by the Hyundai Elantra, Ford Escape, Dodge Caliber, Honda Fit and Chevy Cobalt.
Thus far, 184,304 vouchers have been processed by the DOT, totaling $775.2 million of the original $1 billion. An additional $50 million has been set aside for administering the program.
Cars made by domestic automakers account for 45.3% of sales, down from 47% earlier this week. GM took the biggest slice of overall sales with 18.7%, while Toyota came in second with 17.9%. Ford, Honda and Chrysler round out the top five.
Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has promised that the Senate will vote on a $2 billion extension to the program before it adjourns for the August recess on Friday.
