The asymmetrical driver-side striping design was inspired by the customized 1971 Dodge Shakedown Challenger that Dodge brought to the 2016 Specialty Equipment Market Association aftermarket trade show. The multiple-width black stripes flow from the grille around the freestanding, vibrating Shaker hood scoop, over the roof and down the trunk lid. The $995 package also includes retro white-face gauges in the dashboard and an upgraded Alpine stereo. It can be ordered from the factory for the Challenger R/T Shaker, R/T Plus Shaker and 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker.

The retro Plum Crazy and B5 Blue paints, from 1970 and 1969, respectively, have been in and out of the Dodge paint lineup over the years and remain among the most popular colors for the original muscle cars as collector cars. They’re from a Mopar palette that also has included such if-you’ve-got-it-flaunt-it ’70s shades as Panther Pink, Hemi Orange, Top Banana, Sassy Grass and Go Mango. All 2018 Dodge Charger models can have the new colors now; the full 2018 Challenger lineup will offer them by later this year.
Are the retro hues and Shakedown stripes just a tease for shoppers old enough to remember The Cars’ “Shake It Up” on their car’s cassette deck? Not at all, says Steve Beahm, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles head of passenger cars in North America: “Whether a customer remembers B5 and Plum Crazy from when they were new in the ’60s and ’70s or they’re a new customer today, these paint colors and unique Shaker stripes stand out in the crowd and speak to our customers’ passion for their cars and their love of the Dodge and SRT brands.”
