Dodge pulled back the covers from its latest crossover over the weekend, as “Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer” soared to lead the box office take. In a car company’s latest attempt to get great product placement, the Dodge “Fantasticar” is something of a true crossover: It has three rows, no sliding doors — so no one will mistake it for a minivan — and the ability to split into three individual parts, so while Mom takes Junior to baseball, Dad can head off to the golf course. It also takes crossovers to new dimensions by being able to fly as well.

On the down side, the Fantasticar may have trouble passing NHTSA and IIHS crash tests, since there are no roll bars, no mention of airbags and no word on stability control or ABS. Gas mileage looks to be suspect, what with all that flying and a Hemi engine.

According to a Dodge website, the Fantasticar can reach speeds up to 550 mph and an altitude of 30,000 feet. Each of the three separate sections has deployable wings, and each can maintain the same speed and performance. Of course, there are the familiar Dodge crosshairs on the front and back, and you’ll be able to buy a Hasbro version of the Fantasticar soon, Dodge says.
