CARS.COM — Rumors of an all-wheel-drive Dodge Challenger have been swirling, and the EPA may have just stolen Dodge’s thunder by posting fuel-economy information on the new trim level and drive type, Autoblog reported. According to fueleconomy.gov, there will be a 2017 Dodge Challenger GT trim level where a 3.6-liter V-6 pairs with all-wheel drive for an EPA-rated 18/27/21 mpg city/highway/combined, or 2 less mpg in combined ratings than a rear-wheel-drive Challenger (19/30/23 mpg).
How sure are we that it’s real? A Dodge spokesman reached for comment told Cars.com he can’t comment on future products. In 2015, though, Dodge showed off a Challenger GT AWD concept at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas, and it seems technically feasible given the Challenger’s structure being shared with Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 sedans that have optional all-wheel drive on the 3.6-liter V-6.
With SEMA 2016 around the corner and the Los Angeles Auto Show soon after, we might not have to wait long for official confirmation.
