Gas-Saving Moment of the Day: Zipcar's Low-Car Diet

I wrote a post a little while back about my experience using the urban car service ZipCar. Now ZipCar is offering a chance for 30 people to participate in its month-long low-car diet.

In each participating ZipCar city, the chosen few will be given a complete public transit pass and a free one-year ZipCar pass with some free driving time. In exchange, all they’ll have to do is promise to throw the keys to their own car in a drawer and not touch them for a month, from July 21 to Aug. 15.

The idea is to trim expenses from your budget, pollution from the atmosphere and congestion from the road — although I’m guessing ZipCar’s hoping to hook you on its service has a tiny bit to do with it as well. But honestly, we wonder if any daily car commuter can go a whole month sans car without cheating once.
