CARS.COM — Hyundai and Genesis have informed the existing network of Hyundai dealers of their plan to create a standalone Genesis dealership network in 2018. Genesis has determined the key markets in which it wants to have a presence and will establish a dealership network of “around 100” franchises.

Some dealers currently selling both Hyundai and Genesis vehicles will not be part of those 100 or so franchises, according to Automotive News, but Hyundai reportedly will compensate those dealers. Top Hyundai dealerships in key markets will have the first chance to apply for a Genesis franchise.

In the transition period, Genesis sales will be conducted from shared or temporary facilities while the physical facilities are constructed. Hyundai and Genesis expect this process to take around three years to complete, meaning the G90 will continue to rub elbows with the Accent for the foreseeable future.
