How Do Car Seats Fit in a 2022 Genesis G80?

The verdict: The Genesis G80 got a makeover for 2021 with a new platform, fresh styling and revised powertrains. The mid-size sedan still has a roomy backseat, making it very child-safety-seat friendly. We tested a rear-wheel-drive base model for this Car Seat Check.

Does it fit three car seats? No. While the sedan is very roomy, the outboard seats are large, leaving not much space in the middle position.

A Grade

  • Booster: After raising the head restraint, the booster fit well. The G80’s stable buckles should make it easy for kids to buckle up independently.

B Grade

  • Latch: The two sets of lower anchors are almost exposed but they sit in stiff leather cushions that require just a bit of muscle to maneuver past for connection. The three top tether anchors on the rear shelf are clearly marked for easy use.
  • Infant: We needed a bit of muscle to connect to the lower Latch anchors, but it wasn’t too tough. Our 5-foot-6-inch-tall front passenger had loads of legroom.
  • Rear-facing convertible: As with the infant seat, installation was OK and there was plenty of room.
  • Forward-facing convertible: We did not need to raise the head restraint to situate this car seat flat against the seatback. As with the other seats, connecting to the lower anchors required a bit of muscle. Finding and connecting to the top tether anchor was easy, however.

C Grade

  • None

Grading Scale

A: Plenty of room for the car seat and the child; doesn’t impact driver or front-passenger legroom. Easy to find and connect to Latch and tether anchors. No fit issues involving head restraint or seat contouring. Easy access to the third row.

B: One room, fit or connection issue. Some problems accessing the third row when available.

C: Marginal room plus one fit or connection issue. Difficult to access the third row when available.

D: Insufficient room, plus multiple fit or connection issues.

F: Does not fit or is unsafe.

For the Car Seat Check, we use a Chicco KeyFit 30 infant-safety seat, a Graco Contender 65 convertible seat and Graco TurboBooster seat. The front seats are adjusted for a 6-foot driver and a shorter passenger. The three child seats are installed in the second row. The booster seat sits behind the driver’s seat, and the infant and convertible seats are installed behind the front passenger seat.

We also install the forward-facing convertible in the second row’s middle seat with the booster and infant seat in the outboard seats to see if three car seats will fit; a child sitting in the booster seat must be able to reach the seat belt buckle.
