The seven-passenger Veracruz was introduced for model-year 2007 and has soldiered on with few changes. Among its strengths are a pleasant interior and affordable pricing, but its fuel economy is a big weakness. It’s EPA-rated at 17/22 mpg city/highway, but during one Cars.com test, we averaged only 16 mpg.
“The Hyundai Veracruz will be phased out after production of the long-wheelbase Santa Fe seven-passenger starts. Pricing will be lower for the long-wheelbase Santa Fe compared to the Veracruz,” Miles Johnson, senior manager of Hyundai’s midwest product public relations, told Cars.com.
The 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and seven-passenger Santa Fe should go on sale this fall and next January, respectively.
