CARS.COM — For a vehicle named the Monograph, precious few details were available about Infiniti’s new QX80 concept, set to debut April 11 at the 2017 New York International Auto Show. Nissan’s luxury division released only the name and a cryptic photo revealing front-end styling similar to that of the QX Sport Inspiration concept shown a year ago at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show — presaging both the next QX50 and the future design direction of Infiniti SUVs.
Like its Inspiration inspiration, the Monograph wears Infiniti’s double-arch grille centered by a large brand emblem. LED-bejeweled “human eye” headlights give the QX80 concept a more menacing stare, while its shapely, muscular body contours add some aggression to the characteristically docile-looking current model. The lower bumper area appears to depart from both the existing QX80 and the Inspiration concept, with its gaping intakes and frowny-faced visage.
The QX80 is already known for its bold styling and classy road manners for a truck-based SUV, but it’s also for an uncomfortable third row and stingy cargo room. Now, obviously, this is just a concept — but like the Inspiration concept last year, it should be a pretty good indication of what’s to come, at least in terms of exterior styling.
We’ll know more about where it’s headed later this month as we bring you full coverage straight from the floor of the New York auto show — so check back next week.
