CARS.COM — The 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit just started but Kia’s already jumping to the next show. The automaker today revealed images of the new hybrid SUV it plans to debut in February at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show.
Kia says the Niro hybrid is the first model to be based on the automaker’s new dedicated eco-car platform, and it will use a new “downsized” gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain, Kia said in a statement. That likely means it will not use the Kia Optima hybrid’s 2.4-liter four-cylinder gas-electric hybrid powertrain.
The sleek-profile concept wears high-mounted LED taillights and muscular wheel arches. The Niro resembles Kia’s redesigned 2017 Sportage, but no word yet on whether the two are related. Check back for more information: The Chicago Auto Show opens to the public Feb. 13; press days begin Feb. 11.
