We’re at the 2018 New York International Auto Show to check out the latest creation from Lincoln: the Aviator, a three-row SUV. A finalized version of the Aviator isn’t quite ready yet, so what we’re seeing here is what Lincoln calls a “production preview.”
What they did tell us is that the styling and other things we see here are very close to what we’ll see on the actual production vehicle, with some slight changes to things like the side mirrors and potentially the wheels.
One of my favorite styling elements on the Aviator is the grille. We’ve seen this grille on other Lincoln models, but what sets the Aviator’s grille apart is that the mesh is reversed to give it more of a three-dimensional look. It also sits upright and gives the Aviator a distinctive look that distinguishes it from the rest of the lineup. Personally, I think it looks fantastic.

I’m also a fan of the paint color, called Flight Blue, in keeping with the aviation theme. Another exterior styling element I like is the chrome strip along the beltline. It runs flat across the car from the front to the back and achieves two things: One, it makes the Aviator seem a bit lower; two, it allows for large windows in the first, second and third rows. This allows more light into the cabin and makes it feel more spacious.
Watch the video above to find out the rest of my thoughts about the upcoming Lincoln Aviator.
