In an apparent homage to Groundhog Day, or at least an attempt to get me to relive the same morning over again for a few days, Mercedes-Benz has released another short video teaser of its forthcoming EQ model that will debut Sept. 4 in Stockholm. The last teaser included a 19-second video showing the headlight and some of the front; this time it’s a 14-second video showing the taillight and some of the rear.
What new conclusions can we draw from this cryptic sequel for the electric vehicle? Well, at first glance, it appeared my thought from the previous teaser was correct and this seemed to be some kind of SUV, or possibly even a high-riding hatchback of some kind, given how the rear fender looks to feed directly into the C-pillar and rear glass.
Then again, there aren’t any roof rails, and it’s hard to tell if those trunk lines feed up into the rear to make a liftgate — or if it’s just a trunk. Who knows anything?
It would make sense for Mercedes to electrify an SUV as that body style becomes more popular and EV technology has evolved enough to handle the added mass of a utility vehicle. The combination is the most family-friendly as long as the range can hold up.
Stay tuned for more updates on the new Mercedes-Benz EQ (possibly as soon as tomorrow).
